We're In The Game

I was the Art Director and Lead Designer for "We're In The Game," a multimedia feature that champions the artistic prowess and immersive nature of video games. Through visually engaging illustrations of alumni, interactive "player cards", and a robust social media campaign, we showcased the intricate craftsmanship and technological innovation behind game creation.

I conceptualized the immersive visual theme, collaborated with freelance illustrator/animator Whitney Lam, and orchestrated the creation of captivating animations for both print and digital platforms. In addition to art direction, my responsibilities encompassed designing layouts, drawing and animating icons, producing Instagram stories, and collaborating with video editors to produce dynamic video assets.

Thanks in part to a social media campaign that had an overall reach of 343,000, “We’re in the Game” became one of our top three stories of the 2022 calendar year. The digital story also headlined our October 2022 newsletter and spent several days on Northwestern University’s homepage.

Digital Site

Animated and Interactive Player Cards: Working with illustrator and animator, Whitney Lam, we portrayed Northwestern alumni who work in the gaming industry as video game players and showcased them in “player cards.” They were lightly animated to have a looping card animation on the digital site. On the digital site, a custom interactive element was added to the cards so they flipped when hovering ovver the cards. These animated cards were also used in video and social media. These cards were a special element that complimented the story’s content.

Illustrated and Animated Icons: These icons were drawn and created for a sidebar that highlighted the different categories in gaming. They used the same colors and similar style of the illustrations by Whitney Lam. They were animated in digital.
